Technology Guide Block!

We have a new guide block which is no longer made of metal and therefore cannot rust, which both causes eventual failure of a key pump part and stains the water. The new guide, shown in the above pictures, is made of only plastic pipe, ceramic and cement. It should therefore have a very long life and as the glazed ceramic piece is what actually turns the rope the friction and wear on the rope should be significantly reduced. The new guide should cost around the same as the old (around $4) and it can be easily made (as Maurus demonstrates in the above picture) with readily available tools such as a hacksaw, knife and a fire. The only special part is the ceramic piece which is in fact an insulating piece from an electricity pylon (as shown in the first picture) of which there are hundreds if not thousands in every town.
