John and I have been beefing up the drilling tools as they are
mostly over one year old now and are starting to show the strain.
They have made modifications with the aim of reducing incidences of
equipment breaking. When we lose drill bits down the borehole it is
very problematic, resulting in us usually having to drill a new borehole,
replace lost materials and compensate our drillers for additional work.
Historically this has happened every 15-20 jobs - and we are aiming
to eliminate these incidences through improved manufacturing techniques
and regular maintenance. They have also developed a solid
handle for the pumps made of bent bar rather than welded pipe. These
handles, which only cost 10% more than the old design, should now last
for a lifetime as opposed to only three to five years with the old design.
