Building school latrines in Idete...

The building works at Idete primary school are going on very well. We started with the setting out in the beginning of last week and the first digging works started in the middle of last week. Until now, most of the building works for the septic tank foundation and the latrine block have been done, we are now doing all the slabs, the squats, preparing the brick channels and soon starting with digging out the areas for the irrigation pipes.
Most of the time, there are 3 qualified builders working, with the help of 3 local helpers (provided by the village). I am supervising the works from time to time and organizing the delivery of the material from Ifakara.
The main problems so far were concerning the organization of materials. The school (or most of it is provided by the village) has to contribute certain materials, namely bricks, sand and gravel (which is quite a big amount). This is not always available near the school and is difficult to deliver on time, which can create some problems with the workers not being able to do all the planned tasks on time...

If everything goes well, in about 2 weeks time the works will be done and the first MSABI school latrine (sponsored by TBL) will be ready for use by the 1100 students!
